Blogging can be hard work. It requires time, patience and a lot of focus. However, if you do it well, the rewards can be many. If you have a line of business that does not necessarily warrant a full time blog or you struggle to find the time commitment to maintain your own then writing guest blogs could be the answer. Here are eight reasons why:
1. It’s effective and inexpensive advertising/PR
A guest blog will only cost you the time it takes you to write it – as long as the blog isn’t charging you to post it. You then conclude your guest blog with your biz/product/service blurb and URL which is free advertising for you.
2. You can reach your target market outside those you already reach
A guest blog will help you reach a new audience – the blog’s audience. It allows you to build relationships with a whole new market that you may not reach on your own. If you choose your blog wisely, you will target an audience who are more than likely interested in what you have to say.
3. It can help develop your reputation as an expert in your chosen field
Aim to write a guest blog for someone positioned at the top of their niche. By associating yourself with blogs who have already carved out a reputation, you in turn increase your authority in the eyes of the audience. It’s like power by association! Further, the more you write knowingly on a topic, the more you will be seen as an expert in that field.
4. It can be a great way to ease into blogging before launching your own
Rather than launching into something that may be overwhelming at first, writing a guest blog is a fantastic introduction for you to get the feel of writing for an audience. You will be provided with valuable feedback too which may just be what you need to start your own blog!
5. It’s good for SEO as you link back to your own website
When you write a guest blog, you are usually allowed to add a link in the author bio section. These links help your site rank higher on google and other search engines and will likely provide you with a better page rank. Writing a guest blog is one of the best ways to improve your site’s search engine authority. How cool is that?
6. You can offer a special or discount to the readers of the blog to encourage them to visit you
Ideally you should aim to put in place a “call to action” in your guest blog so that your new-found audience have a reason to visit your site. Perhaps you could offer a code they enter to get a sales discount, a special package or bundle for a limited time only or an incentive to get them to sign up for your newsletter. Be creative!
7. Build Your Social Media Profile
Include your twitter handle or Facebook page and you may end up with a lot more followers to interact with. Even better, if your guest blog host has a social media page and they promote your guest post via that medium then it only takes a few “likes” and “shares” before you are in business.
