So you’ve connected with your intuition and mastered guided meditations, but are still feeling stuck and unable to move through the challenges in your life? Automatic writing is a great tool to have in your toolkit for the times when you want to access your intuition or inner wisdom, but are having trouble hearing what it has to say over the constant noisy chatter going on in your head.
Automatic writing is also useful to try if you doubt the guidance you are receiving through meditation and simply dismiss it as your own voice and words that you are making up. Often the style of language, words used and even handwriting can differ greatly from your usual style when doing automatic writing.
Other uses for automatic writing include brainstorming new ideas for your business, wanting to connect with your spirit guides and any writing tasks you have, such as blog posts, articles, Facebook posts, presentations and speeches. Connecting with your inner wisdom and allowing this inner awesome to flow from within you, makes your external communications authentic and allows your audience to connect with who you really are and what you stand for.
Time to get started for yourself…
Here is a very simple exercise to get you started with accessing your intuition and hearing what your heart wants you to know.
Find a quiet space to sit and place some paper and a pen within reach. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths in and out (in for 6, out for 6 and so on) and continue to do this until you feel yourself starting to relax and your breathing slowing down.
Visualise a gold light coming in through the ceiling of the room you are in and down into the top of your head. Breathe in and allow this divine light to flow down through your body filling your head, neck, shoulders and chest with love. Take a deep breath in and allow the light to flow down through each arm and then down your trunk and into your abdomen and pelvic area. Take a deep breath in and allow the light to flow down into each of your legs, where it flows out through the soles of your feet. Watch as it goes through the floor and continues its downward flow into the ground, connecting you to the rich goodness of Mother Earth. With each breath you take, you find yourself more grounded in the present moment.
Then visualise a blue light flowing down through the top of your head, neck, shoulder and arm that you write with. Feel as this peaceful calming blue energy fills your arm and hand. Say aloud or silently “What does my heart want me to know at this time?”. Or if you wish to connect with your spirit guide or other spiritual being you can simply say “I would like to connect with the spirit guide I am working with at this time.”
When you feel ready, open your eyes, pick up your pen and place the piece of paper in front of you. Begin writing whatever comes to your mind. Keep writing until it feels like the right time to stop. You will know when, don’t worry. When you have finished, give thanks for the guidance you have received.
The key with this exercise is to just keep going once you have started. Don’t stop and analyse what is written on the paper or it will halt the flow of energy. Just keep writing whatever you see, hear or feel onto the page. Often I will start slowly, writing only a few words at a time. The pace then quickens to a flurry of words I sometimes struggle to keep up with and then patters out back to a few words. This is the point at which I know the session is coming to an end.
If you find yourself getting stuck and nothing coming through, I would suggest trying a short relaxation meditation, as this relaxation will help to clear any mental blocks you’ve put in place such as fear and doubt about your abilities.
Many people have different experiences when they first begin automatic writing. The first few times you may only get a few words that pop into your mind. Others who are more visual may see images in their mind’s eye. Everyone is different and you will have experiences that are unique to you and your gifts. You will find you get more guidance each time you do the exercise, as you strengthen the connection with your intuition and become more comfortable with the process.
So the next time you have a challenge arise that requires your inner wisdom to work through and overcome, why not give automatic writing a go. You’ll be amazed at the awesome wisdom that is within you, waiting to be accessed!
