I’m running…. I’m, at times, frantic… I’m the taxi… the cook… the cleaner… the referee, the boss, the nurse, the lover, the friend… I feel like I’m losing my mind!
My energy is expended. I have nothing in reserve. I am stressed. I am numb. And my patience is running thin. All I want to do is quit. Could it be that I am losing my mind?
The Pressure of being mum, wife, lover, friend and business woman is real. Everyone wants a piece of you, and perhaps you’re feeling torn between spending time with family, friends and building your business. But what about you? What are you doing to nurture you? Are you taking time to look after your mind, body and health?
I want to share with you my top 5 tips to looking after your mental and physical health while being focused and committed to keeping your dream alive.
1. Exercise & Nutrition
Staying fit and healthy is the key to having energy, mental clarity and enjoying life and business. Eating a balanced diet containing protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats will ensure your body receives the nutrients that it needs to function normally. Enjoying a treat on occasion, a glass of red wine, that decadent dark chocolate or whatever it is that takes your fancy, in my opinion, is also a must.
2. Support Network
You can’t do it on your own! I am guilty of trying, as I’m sure many of you reading this may also be. But there comes a time when all the balls you are trying to juggle come crashing down. Before you drop the balls get yourself a support network! Maybe you need someone to help with the kids? Maybe you need help with marketing or maybe you need someone to motivate you to exercise regularly and to help keep your nutrition balanced? Whatever support you need, it’s ok to put your hand up and say ‘hey, I need help’
I have only recently discovered the amazing benefits of meditating daily. Whilst many around me practice meditation regularly, it wasn’t until I got to the point of exhaustion, a fried brain and the desire to serve my clients better that I discovered its benefits. Centred, relaxed and equipped to handle stressful situations better, meditation is the key. Meditating daily and doing 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week, is like having cake and eating it too. It provides a complete approach to improved mind and body health. There are some great apps on the market that make it easy to do a quick meditation throughout the day. My favourite that I use often for myself and clients is Smiling Mind. This is a great web and app-based program designed to help bring balance to life.
Get more sleep! Oh I hear this all the time, more time in bed, asleep, would be gold. However, between sick kids, teething babies and business, our sleep goals are often neglected. Scheduling in early nights will help as will deeper, more restful sleep. Meditating before bed will help with this. It will help to switch your brain off, relax your body and help you to really focus in on your core being. Find somewhere comfortable and give 10-20 minutes to just being. You will notice your sleep will improve quickly.
5. Drink More Water
We have all heard how water is good for our health and well-being, it keeps our skin looking good and it is great for the regular functioning of our bodies. But did you know staying hydrated is also vital to good brain function as well? Side effects of inadequate water intake could include headaches, loss of focus, low moods and fatigue. It is recommended that you consume between 2.5 – 3 litres of water a day for optimal health including improved brain function. Water anyone?
